If you think about going into extreme sports don't skate you want to bike. If you are new and want to start there are things you should know and I will tell you. Things that don't matter to you but matter to me are 1. Being in competitions and winning. 2 .falling and crashing thousands of times and never breaking a bone.
Do get training from other kids. You can Learn on your own like bunny hops wheelies and simple ground tricks like that. If you want to get serious then go to the skate park or to home made BMX tracks and have others who have been biking longer than you because they are more trained and can give you tips and show you how the tricks are done. But after they have shown you then you need to try it on your own then after many tries you will have it down. Tricks you might need help with are backflips, super mans, and 360 tail whips.
Don't get crappy bikes. Crappy bikes will decrease your skill, can break easily, cause you to crash, and get injured. The worst bike I have used is a specialized BMX bike. It was my friend's brand new bike he let me use it to try it out and I came out of the bowl to grind on it and the frame snapped in half completely.
Do use heavy bikes to practice and light bikes to compete with. If you use a heavy bike to practice then it can help you do tricks better when you switch to a lighter bike. The reason why you do better on a lighter bike after you have used a heavier bike is because you use more weight to learn tricks. So when you transit to the lighter bike then use les weight so you can do tricks better than before. I use my Diamondback to train and my Fit to compete with.
Don't get a criminal record if you want to get sponsored. Some companies will sponsor you if you have a record like Monster, Rockstar, most energy drink companies, and major well known companies. There are companies however that don't appreciate criminals like Scull Candy and other companies companies from Utah or that have LDS owners and any company who does not appreciate supporting criminals. Think about it would you want some one to show off your company and do things to break the law what does it show about you.
Finally, when you first start out wear safety gear. If you start out and you do not know how to do anything then you will crash and get hurt. If you crash and you land on your head and you have a helmet on then it could stop you from getting seriously hurt.
Whatever you do do not use drugs when you compete or at any other time in your carrier. When you compete then you get randomly drug tested. If you fail or come out dirty they will strip you of your medals then they will kick you out of the competition. One time when I competed I got fourth place then they discovered that the kid who got first place had weed in his system an hour after the competition and took his medal and gave it to second, gave second to third, and third to fourth so I ended up getting third.

I think the best adivce you gave was the heavy and light bikes. I grow up with heavy bikes then like 2years ago my friend let me use his bike and I was way good. Tell I stopped ridding for a wile. It seems you like to bike so keep at it.
