Don't you hate it when people give you labels? I do because I feel like their judging me. But you know all you have to do is be yourself (or what your comfortable being) labels are just labels ,they don't define what you are, the only one that define who you are is your action

I know what you mean by that.I have always bin labeled crazy by my siblings, because they only saw my bad side. Now that I have been angry for so long am tired of it and stopped fitting my siblings labels.

Boxes are life's escape route, it's easier too accept the label and fit the box. Then it is too stand outside the boxes and make a statement, for most At least for a majority.

I like this memoir because it relate to my life. I can relate to this because I've always been labeled and I hated it. The person I am today is a completely different from the person I was two years ago. I changed so drastically because I hated being labeled as the geeky stupid person I'm my group. So I began putting up this wall and now no one from my past knows who I am anymore.

Love this and all of the comments. Summit students are awesome!

Labels for the most part are negative. I wish people would label others with positive connotations. If we did, can you imagine how amazing we would all be?

"Stay out of boxes." Yes, do that. Boxes are confining, restrictive, you can only grow so much. So get out, stretch, . . . and then . . . flip the box over and stand on it. Become the person you are meant to be. :)

If someone gives you a label you don't like, give them a reason to give you a different one. Don't be a follower, be a leader. Prove to the world you are not who you are because someone gave you a "category." You are who you are, because you want to be you.

Thanks for all the comments.

Codie, are you saying it's better to accept the label, than to fight it?

David, I agree with you, but sometimes just by sharing a part of you, others create an instant label. For example, if I say I'm Muslim, there is an instant picture of what that means in your head. Or, because I'm a teacher, many students can only see me as a teacher.

Not at all Mathew. I was saying that for the majority of "the youth" it's hard too reject labels. And stand out, it's easier to accept and "fit in".
