Do/Don't Essay

The worst thing about being in a program, is being in a program. Everything sucks. But their is a way to get through it and move on, the first thing is not doing anything stupid, like drugs or stealing. And the second is simply, following your court and program rules.

There are some simple do's and don't's about being in a program.

Do: Get good grades. They look fantastic to your case worker and judge.  And also help you out in the long run. Because eventually you will want to have a good job, and for the best jobs you have to have a college degree.

Don't: Do drugs. For one, they are not healthy. And second, if you were to get caught, you could get put into a more secure program, or stay longer. If you are too still do drugs, at least wait until you get terminated from the system.

Do: Go to therapy. It will probably help you with your problem and it will look good that you are compliant with your court orders. I know of a kid who skipped therapy all the time; he went to a group home.

Don't: Steal. It will set you back by far! I was only meant to be here for 3-6 months. Then I stole a iPod from Summit Middle School. I now, have been here 9 months. Mostly everything you do will set you back in a program, unless you follow the rules.

And finally Do go home. If you do everything and anything you need to do to go home, you will leave. Except if your home life is dangerous, then you might be put in independent living. Or at least you will get more freedom. Everything will be worth it if you do good.

And for the love of everything holy do NOT run. You will be put in a worst program for a loner amount of time. 6 months in a program is better than 2 years in secure care. Unless you want to be in secure care. But, I do not recommend it.

I think the best do on here is the second one. Because I have been going to therapy and it has helped me a lot. I have learned that if I'm compliant with things I may not like or things I am asked to do then things will go smooth. I'm still have in a hard time with it but the times I have been compliant it has worked really good for me.

I think a great addition you could have made with the therapy do. Is don't just go but try and take things to heart. I've been trying to apply the things I learn in therapy too my daily routine its saved me a few times.

I agree with you. Kids think programs are horrible but if you do what your suppose to do and actually take what you learn into your life on the outs you can become very successful.

David I agree with you. When I was in my group home I didn't get good grades for a while and my judge got pissed off at me. I agree with don't run! When you run, where are you going to go?

I agree what you said David. Some people do think programs are horrible but there not if you follow rules. If you really care about going home to family you will do anything to do good to go home.

I really appreciate your thoughts on running. It seems like a lot of Middle School kids thinks that's the way to go. Good work!!
